There's no surprise that Microsoft wants you to buy a new handset. Every single hardware and software manufacturer wants you to buy the new, shiny thing. That's the way business works. To make sure that's easier on the population of people who want to buy Windows Phone 7, they made sure that their minimum specifications don't match the majority of current handset models out there. That includes the majority of which are running Windows Mobile 6.5.
According to Aaron Woodman, Microsoft's Mobile Communications Business Director, who was speaking with CNET Asia, he says, "I don't know if any Windows Mobile 6.5 device today meets those specifications." Those specific parts, that push the new hardware above the old? For example, a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. They will also need large, WVGA screens. This is where someone should point out to Mr. Woodman, that the 4.3-inch screen and 1 Ghz Snapdragon processor in the HD2 surely make it a suitable candidate for the 7 upgrade.
